The Mayor of Arad City, Gheorghe Falca, received, on Saturday, 23 November 2013, the visit of an official delegation from Morocco led by Mrs. Sabah El Mansouri, member of the Moroccan Parliament and deputy mayor of Marrakech, and Prof. Dr. Ahmed El Mansouri, from the Universities of Marrakech and Casablanca, associate professor at the VGWU Faculty of Medicine. The Moroccan delegation was accompanied by Prof. Dr. Aurel Ardelean, President of “Vasile Goldis” Western University, and representatives of Moroccan students at the VGWU Faculty of Medicine, Pharmacy and Dentistry.

During the meeting with the mayor of Arad, Mrs. Sabah El Mansour wanted to convey the good impressions of Moroccan students on Arad and VGWU and gave many thanks for the friendship and hospitality with which they were received and integrated into the community of Arad. Ms. El Mansouri stressed that relations between Morocco and Romania are very important for Morocco. She explained that one of the priorities of Morocco is providing medical services, and in this respect Romania offers great support through educational programs open to young Moroccans and through the high level of training they provide to future doctors. Mrs. El Mansouri said: “I came from Marrakech , the capital of Southern Morocco, founded in 1006, a city which reunites many contradictions. The city’s economy relies mainly on tourism, but also trade and crafts. Since my arrival in Arad, I have had the opportunity to meet Moroccan students enrolled at “Vasile Goldis” Western University who said that they were very pleased with the hospitality of the inhabitants of Arad, as well as the good training they receive at the University”.

The good impressions on the city of Arad and “Vasile Goldis” West University were shared by Prof. Dr. El Mansouri, who spoke about the hospital that will be established in the Moroccan city of Marrakech, a project set up in collaboration with specialists from the “Vasile Goldis” Western University. Dr. El Mansouri said that the partnership between Marrakech and Arad in the medical field would continue through the exchange of specialists, and that Moroccan officials were interested in developing relations with Arad in other fields, as well. “I am delighted to be with you, here in Arad, which I now regard as my second city thanks to Mr. President, Prof. Dr. Aurel Ardelean, who opened the doors for us and reached out to form a relationship between Arad and Marrakech”, said prof. Dr. Ahmed El Mansouri, associate professor at the VGWU Faculty of Medicine, Pharmacy and Dentistry.

In his turn, the mayor of Arad told guests that the growing number of foreign students consitutes a recognition of Arad education, and also an added value for the city, assuring them that the municipality supported academic approaches to partnerships and to further attracting young people from abroad to study here. “I am happy for this partnership with “Vasile Goldis” Western University and encourage more students to study at this university”, said Gheorghe Falca, Mayor of Arad.Mayor Gheorghe Falca pleasantly surprised our Moroccan guests by presenting them a few novel historical facts about the presence of Moroccan troops in Arad, at the end of World War I, as part of French troops. These facts were recently discovered by experts sent by the Municipality to study documents in the Viennese archives referring to the Arad Fortress.
The official delegation from Morocco had, on Monday, November 25, 2013, a meeting with the management of “Vasile Goldis” Western University – Prof. Dr. Coralia Adina Cotoraci, Rector of VGWU, Prof. Dr. Aurel Ardelean, University president, vice-rectors and heads of departments.

Prof. Dr. Ahmed El Mansouri, from the Universities of Marrakech and Casablanca (Morocco) said: “We are going to plant the seeds of cooperation with “Vasile Goldis” Western University, which are very fruitful. I am talking about our future doctors, as Morocco suffers from a shortage of doctors and we really need medical education. The government of Morocco appreciates “Vasile Goldis” Western University and considers it equal to Universities in France and Belgium, as it provides a very important training for students, who are the future medical professionals of Morocco. I was shown the University facilities and I can say they meet international standards. I saw the hospitalization services and Moroccan students are very satisfied with their medical studies and internships, because in medical training, practice is very important.”
Prof. Dr. Aurel Ardelean, President of “Vasile Goldis” Western University, said: “The meeting we had with the delegation of Marrakech, at the Arad City Hall and our University, has been extremely fruitful, as we conceived a prospective collaborative project with the Marrakech authorities, through the agency of Mrs. MP Sabah El Mansouri, who is also deputy mayor of Marrakech. She deals with social issues and thus we can cooperate on recruiting Moroccan students for the Faculty of Medicine, Pharmacy and Dentistry. In Morocco, there is a good opinion on the medical education that Moroccan students carry out in our city and on the quality of life in the city of Arad. Moroccan students in are satisfied with how they are treated and received in communications with Arad. Mayor Gheorghe Falca supports the possibility of setting up accommodation premises for Moroccan students in our city and is very interested in cooperating with the city of Marrakech in establishing a clinical hospital in Marrakech, a project set up in collaboration with our university specialists, which is pending approval by the administration of Marrakech. The visit from the Moroccan delegation bodes well, and Prof. Dr. El Mansouri, as an associate professor of our University, is delivering courses on urinary anatomy this week to foreign students from the VGWU Faculty of Medicine, Pharmacy and Dentistry.

The Moroccan delegation has had a series of meetings with Romanian doctors to put up a partnership with the Universities of Marrakech and Casablanca.
